It's been awhile since our last post. Life has been busy. I was finishing up my last two summer classes with Northern Arizona University and Ellee was getting ready to begin Jr. High. Here's to beginnings and endings....
In the meantime, we continued reading. We finished The Aviary, began and completed Yellow Star, and are now enjoying What Happened on Fox Street. So, although we weren't blogging, we were still reading :)
I, personally, enjoyed The Aviary immensely. Ellee did, too. Let us tell you a few things we liked about this book:
Sherri: What was your favorite part of this book?
Ellee: When secrets were revealed. Sorry, I can't tell you what they were! You'll have to read it yourself :)
Sherri: I know, it's hard to talk about the book without giving anything away. So much happens toward the end.
Ellee: I know! The end was one of my favorite parts, too.
Sherri: I liked how the book was set in the late 1800's, early 1900's. How did you like the historical aspect of The Aviary, Ellee?
Ellee: I liked learning about the different types of clothes they wore, the houses they lived in, and the kind of stuff they used to do then.
Sherri: Me, too. It's interesting to learn how life was lived in the past. Who would you recommend read this book?
Ellee: I think kids in 5th - 7th grade would like this book.
The Aviary is a great read. It grabs your attention and holds it till the end. But we won't tell you anymore, because we would give all the good stuff away. So go check it out from your public library or buy at your local bookstore. If you do read this book, please share with us in the comments what you thought!
We'll talk about the book Yellow Star on our next post. A really, really important book that everyone should read.
We hope you have a good book to read this weekend!
Cheers,
Sherri and Ellee

"The Aviary" Part 1
We're currently reading Kathleen O'Dell's The Aviary, recommended for ages 8 and up.
This book is exciting and mysterious -- we're more than halfway through, at Chapter 18.
Sherri: So, Ellee, what do you think about The Aviary so far?
Ellee: So far, the book is very thrilling and enjoyable. I would recommend this book for sure. Mom, do you think The Aviary is one of the best books you've read so far?
Sherri: It's a very enjoyable read, but not one of the best books I've read so far...you have to remember that I have been reading for a VERY long time, though! I like the friendship between Clara and Daphne. What do you think, Ellee?
Ellee: It's very hard for them to be friends, but they are trying as best as they can.
Sherri: If Clara and Daphne didn't have any obstacles in the way of their friendship do you think they would be better friends, or do you think the struggles they go through have made their friendship stronger?
Ellee: I think that the struggles made them better friends because they try so hard to see each other, and when they finally do, they appreciate it more.
Sherri: I agree. Are you excited to find out more about the birds and Mr. and Mrs. Glendoveer?
Ellee: Yes. I am very excited to read more. Are you, Mom?
Sherri: Yes! Let's go read!
